Eden supports and encourages people all over the UK to take positive actions that strengthen local connections and build stronger communities.
We bring people together to build their confidence and grow and share their talents. We support individuals and communities as they create positive change to tackle local issues that matter to them most.
We started off with a very simple idea: one day a year when, for a few glorious hours, cars stop, shyness stops, gloom lifts and the UK comes together in the street to meet, greet, share, swap, sing, play and laugh for no reason other than that we all need to.
And so The Big Lunch was born. Since it began in 2009, The Big Lunch — the UK’s annual get together for neighbours — has grown ten-fold and each year gets bigger and better.
In 2017, 9.3 million people took to their streets, gardens and neighbourhoods to join in for a few hours of community, friendship and fun at over 90,000 events. The Big Lunch connects people and encourages friendlier, safer neighbourhoods where people start to share more — from conversations and ideas, to skills and resources.
For many, holding a Big Lunch ignites a passion for doing more good things in their community, and through our UK wide team, we support over 1,000 people to deliver community-led projects that make a positive difference where they live.
Through Community Camp events, experiences and access to engaging resources, the Eden Project supports ordinary people to do everyday things that create extraordinary results. Through small and simple actions, people transform the places where they live and strengthen communities across the UK.
Working from my home in Dundee my Role sits in the Engagement and Learning strand within Eden, which provides activities, learning programmes, encounters and events, which engage, inspire and entertain, enhancing individuals understanding, experience, skills and enjoyment.
My position has a UK wide reach to deliver initiatives that encourage public engagement and participation in positive action and create real social capital on a mass scale. Working within a defined territory (Scotland) my role is to drive up public engagement and participation across all Eden Project Communities initiatives in-Country. This includes delivering a PR and Communications campaign that delivers strong media coverage in Scotland. Leading the delivery of the UK campaign for Eden Project Communities and ensuring it is tailored for Scotland to embed Eden Project Communities and our key initiative, The Big Lunch, in the minds of the general public, engaged audiences, media and leaders in the community sector to support increased participation year on year. My role also acts as an ambassador for the programme to promote it to a National country-wide audience with the primary aim being to upwardly drive awareness and participation.
